Lokta paper is made from the Daphne plant, which grows in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. Lokta paper is also known as Daphne Papyracea or Daphne Cannabina. The wonderful thing about lokta paper is that it is self-regenerating. As long as the plant is cut 8 inches from the ground it will regrow within 6 years and can be cut again. Lokta paper is abundant in its native land of Nepal, and many farmers are able to make a living from making and selling lokta paper. Lokta paper is also naturally resistant to insects and worms. Our lokta paper journals, along with our other items, are all fair trade items.
